Nerys si zrovna připomíná nedožité šedesátiny své matky, když dostane zprávu od gula Dukata. Dukat Kiře tvrdí, že její matka byla za Okupace jeho milenkou. Kira Dukatovo tvrzení rázně odmítá, ale nemůže popřít, že by nezasadil semínko pochybnosti. Využije tedy Orb času k cestě do minulosti, aby si ověřila skutečnost přímo na místě; na Terok Noru. Naskytne se jí však velmi lákavá šance změnit historii.
