Defiant má za úkol přepravit zpět na Bajor Orb času, který si Cardassiané přivlastnili během okupace. Klingonský záškodník Darvin však Orb využije k tomu, aby se i s Defiantem přepravil do více než sto let vzdálené minulosti. Chce napravit svou někdejší chybu a změnit dějiny tím, že... zabije kapitána Kirka. Posádka Defiantu obléká staré uniformy a za žádnou cenu nesmí změnu minulosti připustit.
