Sisko, Odo, Dax a Garak se vracejí z Bajoru, kde se účastnili konference o cardassijské okupaci. Po zásahu výbojem plazmové bouře všichni upadnou do bezvědomí. Když se proberou, jsou zpátky na stanici – v době cardassijské okupace. Z tohoto světa nočních můr obvykle vedla jen jediná cesta: smrt. Tentokrát je ale něco jinak. Vše se zdá být podřízené vzpomínkám konstábla Oda, který si ale vzpomenout nechce.
