Při průletu kvadrantem 904 narazí Enterprise na planetu, která by podle všech map a záznamů neměla vůbec existovat. Na jejím povrchu navíc stojí staré šlechtické sídlo. Výsadek z Enterprise zde uvítá zeman Trelane, vysloužilý generál z doby napoleonských válek. Hrozně se chudák nudí a nemá zrovna doma rodiče.
