Enterprise se blíží k Memory Alfa – ústřední databance Federace, kam veze nové přístroje a vybavení. Oblast je ale zasažena jakousi energetickou bouří, v jejímž důsledku je celé zařízení Memory Alfa zničeno a všichni pracovníci zahynou. Ovlivněna je i Enterprise a též žena, do níž se Scotty nedávno zamiloval.
