Worf, Jadzia, Julian s Leetou a Quark se vydávají na Risu. Worf má však o nádherné dovolené poněkud jiné představy; zdejší "změkčilá" a požitkářská společnost mu vůbec nesedí. A pak se seznámí s Pascalem Fullertonem, vůdcem Nových esencialistů – radikálního hnutí, které hlásá návrat k tradičním hodnotám společnosti. Jadzia se tak raději rozhodne sbližovat se s Arandis, zdejší Curzonovou společnicí.
